Abnormal vital signs. Blurred screen display of a monitor in an intensive care unit to depict abnormal cardiovascular vital signs. The coloured moving traces are from top: heart rate (green); arterial blood pressure (ABP, red); central venous pressure (CVP, light blue); pulmonary artery pressure (PAP, yellow); blood oxygen (PLETH, dark blue); respiration rate (white). In order to obtain these vital signs the patient is attached to electrocardiograph chest electrodes, pulsemeter and a blood gas probe. These vital signs determine the health of the heart and lungs, such as in a patient suffering heart failure. When these signs become abnormal an alarm sounds.
