Blood analysis. Gloved hands analyse blood in a rack of test tubes. The technician on the right is transferring some blood into a sample tube held by the technician on the left. He is using a calibrated syringe to measure out a precise amount of blood. On the table (lower right) is a bag of blood. Blood analysis is used to determine an individual's blood group, what minerals and chemicals are present in their blood, and to check the amount of white blood cells. It is also used to look for bacteria and viruses (such as HIV), and cancers such as leukaemia.
