Blood testing. Medical laboratory worker using an automated blood analysis system. She is placing a blood-filled vacutainer in the machine's sampling area. Some of the equipment used in the machine is seen through the window. This is the Advia 2120 Haematology System from Bayer Diagnostics. It can determine a full blood count (the levels of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets), as well as the haemoglobin levels. It can also be adapted for research use, including the analysis of animal blood. Automated machines allow rapid testing of blood samples, increasing efficiency and minimising errors. This model was launched in 2004.
