Blood sampling. Nurse taking a venous blood sample from a woman's arm with a vacutainer. This is a device which sucks blood out of a vein once it has been punctured. The inside of the elbow is the most common site from which blood samples are taken as the veins are near the surface. Blood samples are subjected to a battery of tests in order to confirm diagnosis or identify disorders.
