Blood sampling. Gloved hands obtaining a blood sample from a patient's arm. This is venepuncture, the process of piercing a vein to remove a blood sample. The blood is drawn out of the arm by, and into, an evacuated, vacuum-containing device (vacutainer). This is the glass tube seen here. The blue strap at upper right compresses the arm, causing the veins to stand out, allowing sampling.
