Caption

Patient with broken leg in traction apparatus. Traction equipment consists of weights, ropes & pulleys, which exert considerable force in the area of a broken femur in order to ensure that it is kept correctly positioned during the early stages of the healing process. Natural tension in tissue surrounding the break makes correct alignment difficult without the use of external force.
