Caption

King's Fund hospital bed. Having standardised hospital beds was an engineering design idea developed by Bruce Archer in the early 1960s. After a series of hospital observations and trials using mock-ups, the design specification was funded and adopted by the King's Fund, who enabled it to become a British Standard.
