Hospital ward. Patients infected with the Chikungunya virus during an epidemic on Reunion Island. The Chikungunya virus is an alphavirus, which is transmitted by mosquitoes and causes a rare form of viral fever. Symptoms include a high fever, rash and arthritic joint pain. There is currently no vaccine for the virus. Photographed at the emergency department of CHD Bellepierre hospital, Reunion Island, on 24th February 2006.
