Microsurgery surgeon. View of a surgeon looking through the eyepieces of a binocular optical microscope. Microsurgery is a technique in which the area to be operated on is magnified to allow very delicate procedures to be performed. This is typically used in cases of difficult surgery, such as on the eye, or in the reconnection of blood vessels. The gloves, cap and face mask help to maintain sterile conditions. The controls his hand is resting on may adjust focus, field of view or the elevation of the microscope. A camera is mounted on the microscope to the left of the surgeon's hand, which may take pictures of the area to be operated on.
