Arterial surgery. Surgeon examining digitised angiograms (arterial X-rays) on monitors during angioplasty. This type of surgery is carried out to clear obstructions or widen narrowed areas of arteries, usually by using a wire-like catheter inserted into the artery. The arteries have been injected with a radio-opaque dye to make them visible on X-rays. Photographed in Labrouste Hospital, France.
