Caption

Laparoscopic surgery. Surgeon using a laparoscope (an endoscope used on the abdomen) to insert a gastric stent, while viewing the procedure on a television monitor. Stents are metallic or plastic tubes inserted into a vessel or passage to keep it open. Laparoscopy is a minimally-invasive technique, which has a quicker healing time and is less damaging to surrounding organs. Photographed at the Chatellerault Hospital (Camille Guerin Hospital), Vienne, France.
