Wound suturing. Artwork of the suturing of the lining (blue) of an organ or body cavity during an operation. The lining could be the pleura of the lungs or the pericardium of the heart. At lower centre is a curved needle, the type of which is used in suturing. Several sterile materials can be used as a suture, some of which are absorbed by the body and so do not have to be removed once the wound has healed.
