Breast surgery. View of a woman's breast during surgery to remove two cancerous growths. The position of one of the lumps is marked with a cross (lower left), while the other more widely spread cancer lies within a much larger area. The whole of this region will be removed to ensure that all of the cancerous tissue is destroyed. The exact position of the breast tumours was found using mammography (X-rays), gamma scanning and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Photographed in the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, Italy.
