Skin lesion removal. Image 1 of 2. Scalpel being used to excise a circular patch of skin containing a skin lesion called a lentigo. A lentigo is a flat area of increased skin pigmentation. It is generally benign and usually caused by exposure to sunlight. Excision is usually cosmetic, but may be to avoid it turning cancerous.
