Caption

Surgery to remove a tumour in the pelvis. Image 4 of 10. Femoral head from a bone bank, before shaping, during surgery to remove a tumour, or abnormal growth, in the pelvis. The new femoral head (the "ball" part of the ball and socket joint) from a donor will be shaped to fill the space left in the pelvis after the removal of the tumour. Bone banks store bone parts from donors for transplantation into bone surgery patients. For a sequence of images showing this surgical procedure, see M551/427-M551/436.
