Heart surgery. Surgeon's gloved hands connecting heart-lung machine tubes during coronary artery bypass surgery. The machine takes over the role of the heart and lungs, allowing the heart to be operated on. Veins from the patient's legs will be attached to the heart to bypass narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. These arteries supply the heart muscle with oxygen. Photographed at The Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, Scotland.
