Heart surgery. Surgeon isolating the blood vessels in the groin in preparation for heart surgery. A balloon will be inserted into the femoral artery in the patient's groin and guided towards the heart, where it will be inflated. The balloon may be used to open a narrowed artery or to block the blood flow and allow a heart-lung machine to take over from the heart while heart valve replacement surgery takes place.
