Caption

Artificial heart valve isolated from the Jarvick-7 artificial heart. It is a pneumatically operated aluminium & plastic heart. The patient is attached to a 6ft lifeline, which is hooked up to support equipment, providing compressed air & electricity. The first patient to receive a replacement heart was Dr Barney Clark on December 1st 1982 at the University of Utah Medical Centre, Salt Lake City.
