Sinus surgery. Surgeons performing functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). FESS involves the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nose and sinuses using endoscopes and CT scans. An endoscope is a thin, fibre-optic tube that allows surgical procedures to be performed entirely through the nostrils. One of the surgeons (at right) is pointing to the endoscopic view of the procedure on the screen at far left. An anaesthetist is also seen, to the immediate right of the screen, monitoring the patient's vital signs.
