Caption

Donor liver. View of a donor liver prepared for organ transplant surgery. The liver has been cut in order to reduce it's size for the recipient. It is dotted with black clips to stop blood vessels leaking. A surgeons hand is seen applying a special fibrin glue to the liver. This will hold the liver in place once transplanted. The liver is soaking in fluid to keep it healthy. Donor livers are obtained from patients who have suffered brain death. They can be stored in cold saline for up to 8 hours. Transplants are performed on patients with fatal liver disease. Part of transplant image sequence: M575/035-047.
