Bone screw. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a screw used in orthopaedic surgery to set the vertebrae of the spinal column. Surgeons may use implants, such as screws, pins, nails, bolts and nuts, to hold broken bones together until the fragments have fused.
