Baldness reduction surgery (Second of 9 images). Surgeon injects local anaesthetic into the scalp of a male patient before baldness reduction surgery. The patient suffers from male pattern baldness (alopecia) affecting the crown of his head. This is being treated by cosmetic surgery of the type known as baldness reduction, an alternative to hair transplant. The technique consists of cutting out an area of bald skin. Surrounding areas of hair-bearing scalp are then stretched to replace the bald area and the incisions are sutured closed. M590/091 to M590/099 showing the sequence of this procedure).
