Baldness reduction surgery (Seventh of 9 images). Stapled incision site in the scalp of a male patient during baldness reduction surgery. Instead of using suture thread, staples close the incision. The patient has male pattern baldness (alopecia) affecting the crown of his head. This is being treated with cosmetic surgery known as baldness reduction, an alternative to hair trans- plant. The technique consists of cutting out an area of bald skin. Surrounding areas of hair- bearing scalp are then stretched to replace the bald area and sutured closed. The surgery is conducted under local anaesthetic. M590/091 to M590/099 showing the surgery sequence).
