Baldness reduction patient (Ninth of 9 images). Top view of the head of a male patient after baldness reduction surgery. The patient suffers from male pattern baldness (alopecia) affecting the crown of his head. This has been treated by cosmetic surgery known as baldness reduction, an alternative to hair transplant. The technique consists of cutting out an area of bald skin. Surrounding areas of hair-bearing scalp are then stretched to replace the bald area and the incision is sutured closed. Here his hair covers the line of sutures. The procedure is conducted under local anaesthetic. M590/091 to M590/098 showing the sequence of this procedure).
