Hair transplant surgery (Third of 8 images). Top view of the head of a man during a hair trans- plant. The patient has male pattern baldness (alopecia) seen as a receding hairline. This is being treated by cosmetic surgery known as punch grafting, the most common method of hair trans- plant. Metal "pins" are used to punch holes in and to remove small areas of bald scalp. Rows of "pins" demarcate the transplant sites here, which are then replaced with grafts of hairy scalp. The grafts are secured in place until natural healing takes place. The procedure is conducted under local anaesthetic. M590/100 to M590/107 showing the sequence of this procedure).
