Saline breast implant. Surgeon's hand squeezing a saline breast implant to test it for leaks prior to breast surgery (mammoplasty). The surgery is being done for cosmetic reasons, which can range from enlarging or reducing breast size, through to altering breast shape. This artificial prosthetic implant will be inserted through an incision on, or near, the breast. The implant is filled with a saline solution that has an identical composition to that of bodily fluids. Saline implants have become more common as the use of silicone-based implants has been linked with various health risks.
