Penis and testicle implants. Illustration showing a penis implant and prosthetic testicles. If the testicles require surgical removal due to cancer, they may be replaced with prostheses. The penile implant allows a man suffering from impotence to achieve intercourse. Two inflatable cylinders are implanted into the penis, and these are connected to a pump in the scrotum. The pump is attached to a reservoir of fluid in a bulb placed under the abdominal muscles. The pump is squeezed with the fingers to pump fluid from the reservoir into the penis cylinders. A small release valve on the pump is pressed to allow the penis to return to a flaccid state.
