Prosthetic eye. A maxillofacial prosthetist making a prosthetic (artificial) eyeball and socket. The acrylic eye is sitting in a plaster mould of a patient's eye socket. Around it, the prosthetist is adding soft, plastic orbital implants. The implants can restore eyelids and any hard or soft tissue lost. A prosthetic eye and orbital implants may be be needed after facial trauma, surgery, or because of a congenital disease.
