Caption

Viagra impotence treatment. Computer artwork depicting treatment of male impotence using the Viagra drug (sildenafil citrate). A woman's hand holds a Viagra pill in front of a male torso. Viagra is the first oral pill for impotence. Un- like other treatments that directly cause penile erections, Viagra affects the response to sexual stimulation. Viagra enhances the smooth muscle relaxant effects of nitric oxide, a substance normally released during sexual stimulation. Smooth muscle relaxation allows blood to enter the penis leading to an erection. A 50mg Viagra pill is taken one hour before sex. Viagra, made by Pfizer, was first used in the USA in 1998.
