Procardia is a trade name for the drug nifedipine, which is used for treating angina and hypertension. Hypertension is a condition in which the blood pressure of the sufferer is dangerously high. Angina is a condition caused by deficiency of oxygen in the heart muscle. It is usually caused by blocked arteries. Nifedipine works by causing the coronary and peripheral arteries to dilate (widen). Nifedipine may cause headaches, dizziness and palpitations.
