Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) pills. Premarin controversially contains horse hormones (conjugated equine oestrogens) collected from pregnant mares' urine. Premarine is used to relieve the symptoms of the menopause by replacing female hormones and it can also help to prevent osteoporosis (bone weakening), which is a result of the menopause. However, side-effects include an increased risk of thrombosis and some forms of cancer. Premarin is manufactured by Wyeth-Ayerst.
