Antibiotic pills. Klaricid is used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract and skin. It contains clarithromycin, a member of the macrolide family of antibiotics. It disrupts the production of proteins that the bacteria need to multiply and divide, which inhibits the growth of the bacteria (bacteriostatic) and stops the spread of infection. Clartithromycin has a similar range of antibacterial activity to the penincillins and is used as an alternative when either penicillin- resistant bacteria are involved and for patients with a penicillin allergy.
