Caption

Pokeweed (Phytolacca americana). Young leaves of this plant are edible and used like spinach. However, care needs to be taken as the leaves become poisonous as they mature. The fruit is also edible when cooked. Pokeweed is used in the treatment of diseases and complaints including rheumatoid arthritis, tonsillitis, mumps, glandular fever, cancer, haemorrhoids and tremors.
