Arthritis drug. Capsule of Celebrex, a drug used to treat arthritis. Arthritis is the inflammation of a joint and the wearing away of its protective covering. Celebrex is a non-steroidal anti- inflammatory (NSAID) drug, that relieves the symptoms of arthritis by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins in the joints. Prostaglandins trigger inflammation and transmission of pain signals to the brain. Celebrex is also used as a post-operative analgesic (painkiller) and in the reduction of the number of colorectal polyps in the disease familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). The active ingredient in Celebrex is Celecoxib.
