Spirulina tablets. These tablets are sold as medication for a wide range of medical problems, from ageing and anaemia to obesity and cancer. The tablets contain spirulina, a blue-green algae rich in amino acids, vitamins and trace elements. However, critics say that some strains of spirulina contain toxins that can cause nausea, diarrhoea and throat infections. Also, many of the studies carried out to examine spirulina's health benefits have been found to be too small and/or flawed and therefore there is limited evidence supporting the use of this herbal supplement.
