Dilaudid. Boxes containing Dilaudid HCl (hydromorphone hydrochloride). The square box on the left contains a bottle of liquid Dilaudid at a dose of 2mg per ml. The rectangular box on the right contains 100 2mg tablets in blisterpacks. Dilaudid is a narcotic (stupor inducing) and analgesic (painkilling) drug used to treat moderate to severe pain. It is an opiate (derived from opium) and is related to morphine, although it is approximately 8 times more potent on a milligram basis than morphine. Repeated use can lead to physical dependence.
