Steam inhalation. Woman inhaling steam from an inhaler. This device is used to help clear the nasal and sinus passages when they are blocked due to a cold or sinusitis. Hot water is placed in the container at the bottom and the steam rises into the face mask from where it can be inhaled. The steam warms and moistens the nasal passages while loosening and softening mucus. Therapeutic oils, such as eucalyptus oil, may be added to the steam for extra benefit.
