Radiotherapy. Patient under a linear accelerator, about to undergo radiotherapy (radiation treatment) for a brain tumour. Her head is held in place using plastic webbing, while the device rotates around her. The area to be treated is identified by lasers (red lines). Linear accelerators are used as a source of high-voltage X-rays, which can penetrate the body to a greater depth and deliver a more precisely targeted dose of radiation. Radiotherapy is often used to treat people suffering from a range of cancers, often combined with surgery or chemotherapy (drug treatment).
