Caption

Prostate cancer treatment. Coloured frontal X-ray image of the pelvis of a 66-year-old male patient being treated for prostate cancer. The bladder is at centre. The patient has had many tiny radioactive rods (lower centre) implanted around the prostate gland, a technique known as brachytherapy, sealed source radiotherapy or endocurietherapy. In radiotherapy, ionising radiation is targeted on or placed in malignant (cancerous) tissue, in order to destroy the abnormal cells or prevent further cancer development.
