Plastic tube containing single dose of live attenuated poliomyelitis vaccine. Live polio vaccine (Sabin attenuated strain) contains antigens to all three types of poliovirus and is given orally in three doses at intervals of not less than one month. An attenuated vaccine virus is prepared so that it loses its virulence but retains its ability to stimulate antibody production. The Sabin polio vaccine is believed to be among the safest vaccines in current use.
