Caption

Thyme Broomrape (Orobanche alba). This plant is parasitic on wild thyme. Its red colour is due to having no chlorophyll - the substance used by most plants to derive energy from the sun. Instead it gains nutrients from the host plant It grows wherever wild thyme occurs.
