Vaccines. Boxes containing vaccines against rubella (German measles, centre left), mumps (centre) and measles (centre right) viruses. Vaccination against these diseases is recommended during childhood in order to provide long-term protection. The injection of a killed or weakened micro-organism, such as a virus, causes the response of the immune system to be stronger when infections occur in the future.
