Influenza vaccination. Close-up of a doctor giving an influenza (flu) vaccination. The vaccination contains inactivated influenza virus particles. It provides protection against disease by priming the body's immune system, without causing infection. The elderly, young, and anyone with respiratory or circulatory disease are advised to be vaccinated against flu. Due to the virus' ability to produce new strains, a new vaccine is needed every year.
