Speech therapist working with a 4- year old girl with a phonological disorder, a severe mispronunciation of sounds. The girl's mother (right) is encouraged to join in so that she can continue therapy back at home. Speech therapists often work with the people most involved with the client (family, teachers or friends), explaining to them the nature of the difficulties and how they can help. The aim is to create a climate that provides maximum opportunites for effective communication. Any person with a disturbance of language or a disorder of articulation, voice production, or fluency of speech may be helped by speech therapy.
