Speech therapy; a five-year old boy with a repaired cleft of the soft palate blows out some candles, one of the exercises used to develop his control of intra-oral air pressure. Any person with a disturbance of language or a disorder of articulation, voice production, or fluency of speech may be helped by speech therapy. Such problems can occur as part of a broader problem, such as physical handicap, learning difficulty, or hearing loss. Speech therapists work with all age groups.
