Speech therapist working with a five-year old boy suffering from a fluctuating conductive hearing loss associated with a cleft palate. Conductive deafness results from poor sound propagation from the outer to the inner ear. Any person with a disturbance of language or a disorder of articulation, voice production, or fluency of speech may be helped by speech therapy. Such problems can occur as part of a broader problem, such as physical handicap, learning difficulty, or hearing loss.
