Physiotherapy. Physiotherapist helping an elderly woman to stand and walk. She is holding onto a walking frame for support. This form of therapy aims to correct poor posture brought on by inactivity, or to help those who are not mobile to use their legs. Being bed-ridden or slouching in a chair for long periods can lead to poor posture, which can cause back and neck pain. In the case of an accident, or when the patient is disabled, exercising the muscles involved in walking and standing can help the patient regain their mobility. Physiotherapy is the physical treatment of disorders or injuries. Massage, heat therapy and ultrasound treatment are also used.
