Special needs assessment. Boy playing in a play area designed for the assessment of children with special needs. This equipment could be used to diagnose and study attention defecit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This is a condition in which children have a short attention span and are disruptive. Specialists can watch children at play on the equipment and assess motor skills and sensory-processing abilities to gain an insight into the needs of the children. Social interaction between children may also be observed, and the bright colours help to assess visual acuity and perception. Photographed at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK.
