Ear-drop treatment. Patient's ear near an ear dropper dispensing a medicinal liquid. Ear-drops treat bacterial or viral infections of the outer canal, known as otitis externa. They serve to relieve earache or irritation in the ear canal, which may cause a discharge and a loss of hearing. Ear-drops can also be used to clear the ear canal of wax.
