Blood sugar level tester for use by diabetic patients. This device, opened to show its interior, measures the level of glucose in the blood. The blister pack (top right corner) contains a disposable cartridge of ten tests. Diabetic patients need to regularly check their blood glucose levels. Diabetes is a disorder in which the production of the hormone insulin, which regulates blood glucose levels, is reduced. To use this device, the skin must be pricked to release a drop of blood. The blood is then placed on one of the ten testing chips. The blood glucose level is then displayed on an LCD screen (not seen). This is the DEX Glucometer, made by Bayer.
